Lily Grewal is a long time community advocate with a progressive voice. She values the
cooperative principles of bringing a broader perspective on economic growth that includes
communities, social justice and environment. As a member for over 17 years, she has witnessed
the powerful impact of Vancity’s vision in communities. With your support, she will continue to
be a strong voice for your values - committed to furthering Vancity’s values and goals through
engaged and accountable leadership with the Board of Directors.
Lily brings leadership, governance, and financial experience gained during the past 17 years of
working with communities, non-profits and government. She has served on the Vancity Board
of Directors for the past six years. During this time, she has been the chair of the HR
Committee, and sat on the Audit, Risk, Digital and Governance Committees. In her professional
work, she is a director with the provincial government, and currently oversees a multi-million
dollar budget to support a wide range of programs to help new immigrants and their families
make British Columbia their home.
Lily’s working and volunteer life is dedicated to social change that benefits the environment and
communities. She has volunteered her time in various initiatives, including on the board of
many non-profit organizations like the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Vancity
Community Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Delta/Richmond, and the Council of
Agencies Serving South Asians, as well as being involved in environmental and community
advocacy. She has been a member of other cooperatives in Vancouver and Toronto, and has
volunteered for a women-led cooperative in India that focused on micro-credit loans. These
experiences have deepened Lily’s understandings of the connections between local and global
Lily received her Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto and has a
Bachelors of Arts from UBC. Lily has also completed the Chartered Corporate Director Program
with McMaster University (C. Dir).
A daughter of immigrants, Lily was born and raised in Richmond and currently lives in Delta with her partner and son, where they enjoy the forests and cycling.
