Core Values

Biography

I'm a long time community advocate with a progressive voice. I value the cooperative principles of bringing a broader perspective on economic growth that includes communities, social justice and environment. As a member for over 13 years, I have witnessed the powerful impact of Vancity’s vision in communities. With your support, I will continue to be a strong voice for your values - committed to furthering Vancity's values and goals through engaged and accountable leadership with the Board of Directors.

I bring leadership, governance, and financial experience gained during the past 15 years of working with communities, non-profits and government. I have served on the Vancity Board of Directors for the past three years. During this time, I have been the chair of the HR Committee, and sat on the Audit, Risk and Governance Committees. I currently work in government where I engage employers and businesses to help immigrants make BC their home. During this time, I have overseen an annual funding portfolio of $3.5 million.

My working and volunteer life is dedicated to social change that benefits the environment and people in communities. I volunteer my time on the board of many non-profit organizations like the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Vancity Community Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of Delta/Richmond, and the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians as well as being involved in environmental and community advocacy. I have been a member of other cooperatives in Vancouver and Toronto, and volunteered for a women-led cooperative in India that focused on micro-credit loans.

I received my Master in Social Work degree at the University of Toronto and completed my undergraduate degree in sociology and women studies at UBC. A daughter of immigrants, I was born and raised in Richmond and I currently live in Delta with my partner and young son, where we enjoy the forests and cycling paths in our community. I am an avid transit user and a supporter of local businesses.
